Moot Court Competition at Jaipur National University


“Mooting is first platform to learn the advocacy skill. The moot courts help in the development of argumentative skills of a law student which is a prerequisite for becoming a good lawyer,” said Hon’ble Justice Mr. SP Sharma, Rajasthan High Court. He was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the 8th Prof VS Mani Memorial International Law Moot Court Competition organized by the Seedling School of Law and Governance, JaipurNational University on 18th October, 2019.


While delivering his inaugural address, Justice Sharma said, “Law is the lifeline of any nation as the rule of law guarantees democracy in the parliamentary institutions and also protection of rights of the citizens”.  He explained the true definition of profession of law to the students and said, “The budding law graduates need to hone up the art of advocacy based on facts, figures and calibrated arguments in gracious presence of high caliber sitting judges, eminent jurists, and judicial officers.” “Any legal professional should act as strong protagonist of citizen’s fundamental rights against the might of system using the various provisions of the law”, he added. 

Dr. Sandeep Bakshi, Chancellor of Jaipur National University, advised the budding law professionals to undertake the practical learning as the most crucial aspect of undergoing legal studies. He said, “Undergoing legal education in classroom, interpretation & implementation of law outside the classroom in the society are two different things”.  He advocated “Quest for Knowledge and True Personality of Life” as the success mantra to the students and said, “Universities or Institutions, when inculcate such professional ethics and morals in its students, are prepared to take any challenge in their lives and come out as winners at last”.


The three-day event of 8th Prof VS Mani Memorial International Law Moot Court Competition at the Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National Universtiy, concluded today with University of Legal Studies, Punjab University, being declared the winner and Symbiosis Law School, Noida, the runner up. Best Memorial went to Mr. Nilavan S of Tamil Nadu National Law University. And best advocate to Naomi Almeida, Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad.

Dr. Preeti Bakshi, Executive Director of Jaipur National University in her presidential address appreciated the efforts of Law School students in holding this prestigious event. Dr. Bakshi proudly stated, “The Indian legal acumen is unparallel and the purpose of such Moot Courts is to nurture them further. She urged all the participants of the Moot Court Competition to aim at becoming distinguished legal professionals of the world. Dr. Bakshi further said that Jaipur National University strives to bring out the best in each and every student and has thoughtfully created student-friendly campus for this purpose.


All the 36 teams locked horns with one another to qualify for the Quarter finals and the 8 Quarter finalist teams included Symbiosis Law School, Noida, University of Legal Studies, Punjab University, Tamil Nadu National Law University, Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala, Symbiosis Law School, Noida, School of Law, Sastra University, School of Law, Mody University of Science Technology, NALSAR Hyderabad, and Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad.

Symbiosis Law School, Noida, University of Legal Studies, Punjab University, Tamil Nadu National Law University and Rajiv Gandhi National Law University competed further to make it to the semi-finals. The 4 semi finalist teams of rubbed their shoulders against one another to make it to the finals on 20th October, 2019. Battling the sharp competition of the semi-final rounds, the teams of Symbiosis Law School, Noida, U.P. and University of Legal Studies, Punjab University made the worthy finalists.
